The Metropolitan Council’s Environmental Services Division (MCES) operates and maintains 600 miles of regional sewers serving over a hundred communities in the metropolitan area. MCES collects and treats 250 million gallons of wastewater a day at nine treatment plants, collaborates with other agencies and local governments to protect the region's water resources, and ensures enough sewer capacity to serve planned development. 


This posting will remain open until filled.  However, applications received before August 7 will be given priority.

General Duties:

Will be responsible for managing environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs ensuring compliance at MCES wastewater facilities.  Will promote a safe and healthy environment, coaching employees when issues are identified.  Will require travel to MCES locations within the metro area.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational safety, environmental science, or other related degree AND three (3) years or more experience in a safety-related industrial position.  Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.  See Council’s job posting for equivalencies. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as an occupational health and safety professional in an industrial setting

  • Certifications preferred: CSP/ASP or CHMM

  • Experience in EHS change management

  • Experience building and leading teams focused on EHS culture change and continuous improvement


Starting Salary Range: $66,352 - $75,296/year
