The City of Reno has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly experienced leader who possesses expertise in the field of water, sewer, flood, and drainage management to fill the position of Director of Utility Services.  The ideal candidate will possess experience in project management oversight and administration of various water and wastewater utility operations and functions including water production, water distribution, flood protection, sewer and drainage collection.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for developing/maintaining a professional collaborative working relationship with internal and external stakeholders.  Must possess strong facilitation and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively and develop and deliver effective presentations to a variety of boards, commissions and committees including appearing before and advising the City Council and City Manager on City Utility Services and related matters. 

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil or environmental engineering or a related field.


Ten years of increasingly responsible water and wastewater resources management experience including capital projects, public utility, or public works; including three years of management and administrative responsibility.

License or Certificate:

Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.

Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Nevada.

This position is an at-will, appointive employee and is exempt from the Civil Service system.
