Process Control Engineers

The Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC), a large publicly-owned wastewater treatment plant located in Newark, New Jersey is currently seeking Process Control Engineers.

Position Description:  The Process Control Engineers provide process control engineering services for all physical, chemical and biological processes throughout the treatment plant, collection system, out fall, remote pump stations and the water quality monitoring program. Assist the Director of Process Control Engineering and regulatory compliance by conducting studies and experiments involving all aspects of plant operation, permit compliance and the water quality monitoring program. Develops and maintains quality control for daily operational data. Performs drafting, plotting of graphs and charts. Maintains a solid transition from analytical and operational data to the process computer and conducts operator level research to improve plant performance. Explores and improves operating policies for specific unit processes or operations within the plant. Prepares and writes technical research reports and studies. Aids in the preparation and writing of technical research reports and studies. Instructs and supervises operational personnel in order to establish and maintain sampling programs. Performs routine analysis of water and wastewater samples and maintains field sampling and monitoring equipment. Off-site and on-site water and wastewater sampling and monitoring. Interfaces with engineering consultants on behalf of PVSC, reviewing drawings and specifications prepared by the consultants. Acts as a liaison during construction between PVSC and various engineering consultants.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Understand the treatment process and how the treatment process is operated by reviewing design specifications, drawings, texts, talking to operators and reviewing daily logs; Obtain solutions for operating problems and express the findings in a quantitative fashion; Organize assigned technical engineering work and develop effective work methods to analyze, interpret and evaluate engineering problems and to apply appropriate solutions; Apply basic engineering principles and techniques to work assignments, develop sound plans and recommendations, and to prepare clear, concise and sound engineering reports containing findings and conclusions; Effective oral and written communications skills; Work independently and in a team environment.

All applicants must meet the NJ First Act residency requirements and a valid NJ Driver’s License.     

PROCESS CONTROL ENGINEER  - Requirements in addition to those references above; Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of four (4) years of experience in wastewater treatment systems or process design preferred but not required.

PROCESS CONTROL PROJECT ENGINEER - Requirements in addition to those reference above; Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment systems or process design is required.

PROCESS CONTROL SENIOR ENGINEER - Requirements in addition to those reference above; Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. A minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater treatment systems or process design is required.

Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and may be required to work both indoors and outdoors. Year-round access by boat to area water bodies and use of sampling truck in various weather conditions.
