Plans, directs, coordinates and supervises a staff of lower level technicians engaged in the performance of complex inspectional, investigational and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with environmental laws, rules and regulations; and performs other related duties as required.

The immediate vacancy is with the Department of Environmental Services, Environmental Quality Division. This position is responsible for planning and supervising field inspections, investigations, and surveys concerning pretreatment, industrial source control, and hauled waste management programs, and assisting in the research, investigation, and preparation of necessary enforcement actions.

There is one vacancy with the Department of Environmental Services, Environmental Quality Division. Work may involve occasional exposure to gas and traffic hazards; occasional exposure to disease germs through handling of sewage; and field investigative work which includes climbing ladders; descending into trenches, tanks, and manholes; and crawling through pipes, while carrying sampling equipment.  Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

  • Six years of technical field experience which involved inspectional and/or investigational work relating to the enforcement of laws, ordinances, and/or rules and regulations, three years of which shall have been specific to the enforcement of water quality standards; OR one year of work experience at the next lower level (i.e., one year of work experience as an Environmental Technician IV); AND
  • Including or supplemented by work experience demonstrating aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

Substitution: An associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering Technology or Natural Sciences and/or a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, or in a Biological or Physical Science will substitute for two years of technical field experience which involved inspectional and/or investigational work relating to the enforcement of laws, ordinances, and/or rules and regulations. There is NO substitution for the three years of technical field experience specific to the enforcement of water quality standards, or for one year of work experience at the next lower level.

License Requirement:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required. The current vacancy requires a valid automobile (Type 3) license, prior to appointment.
